We know storage can raise a lot of “what if” questions—especially during the off-season. To make things easier, Lithionics collected the most commonly asked questions. These quick answers will help you store your battery safely, avoid common mistakes and keep your system in peak condition.
1. Can I leave my battery charging in storage?
No—we don’t recommend it. Leaving your battery connected to a charger for extended periods can cause unnecessary stress and reduce its lifespan. Here’s the better way to store it:
- Charge the battery to 100% State of Charge (SOC)
- Discharge it to 50–80% SOC
- Power the battery off completely
This simple process prevents overcharging and helps your battery stay healthy during storage.
2. Should I recharge my battery if it hasn't been used in over three months?
Yes. Before hitting the road (or water) again, charge your Lithionics battery to 100% SOC. This ensures peak performance and full reliability from the moment you power back up.
3. How should I store my battery in extreme temperatures?
Lithionics batteries are engineered to handle a wide range of conditions, but extreme heat or cold can still impact performance and lifespan.Recommended storage range:
- Minimum: -4°F (-20°C)
- Maximum: 122°F (50°C)
Pro trip: When possible, store your battery in a dry, temperature-controlled space.
4. Do I need to disconnect my battery for storage?
Yes. Disconnect all electrical loads from the battery—even small, passive ones like LED lights, sensors or monitoring systems.
These small “parasitic loads” may not look like much, but over time, they can drain your battery and cause undervoltage issues. Disconnecting the battery helps preserve its charge and reduces unnecessary wear during storage.
5. Is it safe to store a lithium battery?
Yes. When stored properly, Lithionics batteries are safe, stable and reliable. Each battery includes built-in protection features to help prevent over-discharge, overheating or other potential issues. As long as you follow the recommended storage steps, your battery will be ready to perform when you are.
