A different kind of Class C: Grand Design Lineage Series E

Grand Design RV continues to open doors for consumers moving to motorized units. The new Lineage Series E is the brand’s first gas-powered Class C motorhome, marking its entrance into the largest segment of the Class C market and bringing the award-winning Lineage experience to even more adventurers.

“This might be someone's first motorhome, or they’re upgrading from a 19- or 20-foot Class C and want a slide-out or a little bigger coach,” said Michael Hums, product manager for Grand Design’s Class C motorhome division. “It could also be someone coming down from a larger Class A diesel pusher, or that weekend warrior who wants an RV for quick getaways.”

Confidence by design

Quality, accessibility and the consumer experience drive how the Lineage Series E took shape.

“Today’s RV owners expect more freedom, more flexibility and fewer limitations,” said Cara Sandmann, brand manager for Grand Design RV. “We wanted to create a product without compromise at an attainable price point. The Lineage Series E is a great choice for somebody coming into the motorized segment for the first time. They'll have the confidence to take this rig wherever they want to go, and the peace of mind knowing Grand Design stands behind the product.”

That confidence starts with what's underneath.

The team built the Lineage Series E on the popular Ford E-450 chassis, with FOX suspension, for a premium ride. A 310-amp-hour Lithionics lithium battery system pairs with 180-watt solar paneling and FireFly remote monitoring to power the coach for off-grid excursions.

Shaking up the standard

“When we started designing this, we looked at what the market was missing,” Hums said. “Everyone makes a version of this floor plan. We took it and kind of shook the snow globe a little.”

The team spoke with dealers, listened to consumers, looked closely at the competition and leaned on years of experience to shake up the standard.

The shift in thinking shows up everywhere, including features that redefine traveler comfort and design in the segment.

Instead of making the coach bigger, the team found ways to make the same footprint work smarter, incorporating a king-size bed, a larger bathroom and shower, front-to-back air-conditioning and class-leading exterior storage. A cleaner, more modern exterior showcases premium full-body paint and European acrylic windows with integrated shades and screens.

“I want them to notice all the attention to detail,” Sandmann said. "Everything has very clean lines. I think there's a wow factor from the exterior and the interior the moment you step in. We wanted to make sure this was a rig people felt comfortable taking out, whether it's for 24 hours or a cross-country road trip."

None of those features are there to merely lengthen a spec sheet. Together, they elevate every moment outdoors for Series E owners.

Just getting started

Excitement built months before the first coaches reached dealerships. Dealer previews, factory tours and teaser videos gave customers an early look at what was coming, and the response confirmed the team was onto something special. The Lineage Series E will make a big splash at upcoming industry events, including America’s Largest RV Show in Hershey and the Elkhart RV Dealer Open House in September.

And while the Series E is the newest addition to the Lineage family, the Grand Design team isn't slowing its motor anytime soon.

“We're committed to the motorized market,” Sandmann said. “We want to make sure we're providing products that fill all the consumer needs within that space. We're always hearing our owners' feedback along the way, and we'll continue to listen, innovate and bring products to market that our owners need and want.”
