Peninsula WITS
Local Chapter

Peninsula WITS celebrated Oktoberfest in Leavenworth. Fourteen coaches stayed at Wenatchee River County RV Park for four days in October. It was a good old-fashioned campout, minus the tents. Evening bonfires and toasted marshmallows were on the agenda. Some members of the group even toured a distillery in Cashmere. Much shopping was accomplished in the nearby communities. Friday night dinner was held at a '50s diner and Saturday night was a German potluck at the park. A great time was had by all.

September: WA State Rally held in Lynden was GREAT fun as usual. There were 103 motor homes in attendance including seven from our chapter. Dorene and Harry Forslund joined the Sun Catchers at the rally. Our assignment this rally was parking. We all arrived early to study the rally grounds and create a parking plan. As part of the assignment, we were also in charge of the goodie bags distributed to RV owners as they entered the park. All went smoothly and even though it was a busy couple of days, we enjoyed the camaraderie and chance to help the rally be a success.

The theme for this rally was "Memories are Made of This." The decorations were amazing. On the tables there were photos of old RV models with little scenes. Some of the old scrapbooks and photo albums were displayed with pictures and history as far back as the early '80s.

As for beanbag baseball, we won our first game by a great margin (20/7) only to lose our second game (7/20)!!! The Frazier Valley Explorers won the tournament for the second year in a row. Congrats!

There were meals, seminars, new coaches to drool over, bingo, ice cream, crafts, prizes, cards, and games, but most of all, there were friends and acquaintances to visit. The parade of games wasn't on the schedule this year so our club volunteered to be in charge. Most of the equipment was there so we set it up and manned/womaned the individual games. Good fun was had by participants and workers as well. Some very nice prizes donated by Torklift Central RV Center were given to the top scores for women and men.

The Friday evening entertainment was a sharp swing band named Grooveyard. They may have been a five piece-band, but they had a BIG sound.

October: Our October outing was at the Columbia Riverfront RV Park in Woodland, WA. There were twelve coaches in attendance. The mighty Columbia River, second only in size to the Mississippi, serenely flowed passed the RV park. Huge ships carrying grain/car/stacked sea land containers chugged by in the channel close to our side of the river. The riverfront location of the park gave us an excellent vantage point for viewing the river traffic.

We had two fun craft projects, rock painting and silk checkbook cover painting—lots of fun! The diversity of imagination made for interesting finished pieces of art.

A few adventurous sightseers among us found a couple of waterfalls, a historical grist mill, and a covered bridge. They saw salmon leaping upstream and were also lost for quite a long bit of time (that's the adventurers who were lost, not the salmon). There was also an outing to Dave and LJ's RV Interior Design where they specialize in remodeling RV interiors.

This was goodbye for a time for some of our group as they will be heading south within the next weeks.
