Tidewater Tascas
Local Chapter
By Lily Lach
Oct. 14-16, Bob and Ginny Nibarger hosted the Tidewater Tascas outing at The RV Resort at Carolina Crossings in Roanoke Rapids, NC. We were joined by the VA Coasters, sharing meals and outings.
Friday night the VA Coasters hosted dinner and yummy desserts. Saturday morning the Tidewater Tascas men prepared breakfast. No need for lunch after this feast!
After breakfast we had a meeting to set up the 2012 schedule of campouts and activities. We congratulated our Tidewater Tascas members: Phil Hannaford, new VA state president, and Pat Montgomery, new VA state secretary. Lily Lach was sworn in as the secretary for Tidewater Tascas and new vice president is William Frye.
Saturday, Bob Wright organized a tour of his birthplace, Halifax, NC. We had an informative tour by the Historic Halifax Visitor's Center. Our guide was excellent and after visiting several of the historic buildings, a thirteen-minute summed up our tour.
Saturday evening we met for dinner at David's Restaurant in Roanoke Rapids. It featured American cuisine—all gave thumbs up for their choices. The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads provided a great place to camp. It was easily accessed from I95 and the layout of the sites provided quick setup and break down. The rally room for group gatherings had a well-equipped galley kitchen and large round tables for comfortable dining. A complimentary continental breakfast was offered daily. We gathered on Sunday for this breakfast and said farewells before heading for home.
We had perfect weather and enjoyed the fellowship with the VA Coasters. We look forward to another joint venture with them.

Our October campout was a joint campout with the Tidewater Tascas at the RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Each club had seven coasters attending. The main building has been completed since our last visit and contains an office, restrooms with showers, laundry room, and a rally room with a complete kitchen, tables, chairs, and a large screen TV.
Thursday and Friday we explored the local area and a big hit was the Riverside Mill Antique Mall. It is a beautiful old restored Cotton Mill containing antiques, crafts, and a QVC clothing outlet. Other points of interest were the Roanoke Canal Museum and the River Falls Park.
Saturday we went to a walking tour of Historic Halifax where we toured buildings and homes dated from the 1700s followed by a film in the visitor center.
It was a great weekend which both chapters enjoyed very much.
