Heart of Texas Winnies
Chapter Meeting
By Martha Callaway

Fourteen Heart of TX coaches were on the ground for our December Christmas meeting in Burleson. In addition, there were two guest rigs (Oszmans and Rollins), one member drive-in (Shirley Smith), two honorary member drive-ins (Pearl Baird and Carol Maxwell), and one special past member guest (Grace Miller).

Hosts were Nancy and Steve Ferguson, Jack and Louise Coleman, and Gail and Kent Miller. These three hosts did put on a special Christmas meeting, including Christmas piano music by our own Gail Miller, a Christmas carol sing-along, a Mexican Stack dinner prepared by the hosts, and Christmas games.

Christmas is a time for giving and Heart of TX members do believe in giving. They presented a total of $450 to the Johnson County Child Advocacy Program. Also, members brought about 750 pounds of canned goods for the Harvest House food pantry in Burleson.

At this meeting, Mimi Philips led the ladies in working on lap quilts to present to a very small church in Poetry, TX. This church project in Poetry has mushroomed and quilts, pillow cases, and prayer shawls are presented to needy men, women, and children.

Glenn asked the members to save the pull tabs off of their drink cans and bring these pull tabs to future meetings. Glenn will collect them and take them to the Texas W meetings where someone will deliver them to The Ronald McDonald House.

At this meeting, we were fortunate to gain Oz and Maggie Oszman as new members of Heart of TX. The Oszmans were the fourth couple to join Heart of TX in two months. Three new members joined Heart of TX in November: Ivan and Nell Alspaw, Carol Meyer and Warren Davis, and Mike and Kathy Compton. We look forward to fellowship and travel with these four couples over the coming years. It was with great pleasure that Glenn Riedel, president, presented honorary memberships to Pearl Baird and Carol Maxwell. We look forward to seeing these two ladies at our future meetings.

Steve Ferguson, Heart of TX chaplain, presented an inspirational Christmas devotional on Sunday.

After devotional and many hugs, we left our Heart of TX family and headed for our homes.

Nor-Tex Travelers

Nor-Tex Travelers November meeting was full of good eats with a turkey fry by wagonmaster Mike Reid. The officers finished out the Thanksgiving celebration with the traditional sides and pies. It was a thankful weekend of good friends and great outings.

A trip into Weatherford to visit the Kennedy Sausage Factory supplied delicious sausage for our Saturday breakfast. Of course, a visit to the Country Market for local produce, honey, and pecans rounded out the day.

Saturday after the monthly meeting, guest speakers arrived from one of the local volunteer fire departments to increase our awareness for fire safety. The fireman showed videos and discussed the dangers of a confined space with free burn potential. The highlight of the discussion was to actually use fire extinguishers on a controlled fire. The types of extinguishers were shown and the ABC extinguisher was the recommended choice. The firemen stressed you only have minutes to use the extinguisher to create a pathway for you to escape. Do not try to fight the fire. Know your emergency exits and procedures. Be safe!

The Travelers are an exciting bunch. So many friends gathering at monthly meetings full of games and outings! We are preparing our December meeting and we do hope to see you in January.

Red River Wrangers
Local Chapter
By Vera Lowrey

The Red River Wrangers went to the Whispering Pines RV Resort in Tyler, TX, for our Christmas campout. We had four rigs in attendance all arriving on Thursday. When we arrived, we found the Rambling Rose Travelers chapter already there. On Friday some of us went over to say hello to the other chapter. They talked us in coming back over to play a game of beanbag baseball.

On Friday night, we went to Santa Land to see Christmas lights while riding a wagon through the park. On Saturday night, we enjoyed more Christmas lights around Tyler.

Sunday we said our goodbyes, looking forward to seeing you in January.

Have a safe trip.
