Cardinal Winnies
Local Chapter

July: The Cardinal Winnies enjoyed the 2009 GNR with ten coaches attending. We had a great experience renewing friendships and making new ones. One member of our group, Peggy Moore, won first place in the Scrapbook section of the Arts and Craft competition.

Aug.: The Cardinals celebrated their 37th birthday with a campout at Lively Lady Campground at Aberdeen, OH.

The campground is located on the riverbank, giving us quite a show as many tugboats with barges made their appearance as they traversed the river. We even heard blasts on their horns as a couple of tugs passed in the early morning with heavy fog. The campground also has a restaurant on the grounds with great food.

Saturday several of the members toured the area viewing works of art on the flood walls at Portsmouth, OH and Maysville, KY; visiting the John Rankin House, a station on the underground railroad; and the Tobacco Museum—both located at Ripley, OH.

Saturday the campground provided the club with a treat of homemade ice cream during our birthday celebration.

River City Winnies
Local Chapter

July: The River City Winnies met at Lively Lady in Aberdeen, OH, for our July campout. Wagonmasters, Verne Augspurger and Karl, along with first-time wagonmasters, Kevin Felix and Grandmother Peg, put on a terrific outing. Everyone was glad to see Coach (Fred) Garretson, honorable member. All enjoyed the great buffet at the Lively Lady restaurant Friday evening. Saturday games followed dinner along with the mystery game "Find the Missing Earring." One earring was found and awarded to Lucy Collins.

Groovy, man! Far out! The WITstock GNR is now a distant memory. Nine coaches attended the GNR that included longtime GNR volunteers, Bob and Kathy Westbrook. The week was fun-filled, with seminars, displays, special trips, and first-class entertainment. Hats off to Winnebago and the WIT staff for a great WITstock Rally.

River City Winnies received the Chapter of Excellence Award for 2009. River City Winnies outstanding newsletter (created and prepared by past President, Ron Collins) won Honorable Mention. Kevin Felix won Second Place in Arts and Crafts with his stained glass hanging. Dave Grayum won First Place in the dance contest with world famous, Malevenna. Ohio WIT members present at the Rally served root beer floats at the State Row Party and did an excellent job as usual. Thanks Winnebago for a groovy rally.

Aug.: Wapakoneta KOA was the setting for our campout. Fifteen coaches attended, with Peach and Frank Brinker driving in Saturday to attend the meeting and camaraderie during the day. Wagonmasters, Katheleen and George Gallaway, along with Joe Biehle and Bob and Joyce Kathman did a wonderful job providing dinner Friday evening.

Saturday all members participated in a mini Triathlon. The remaining afternoon was spent playing Dominos, swimming, and catching up on conversation.
