Hudson Valley Ramblers
Local Chapter
By Jane Godfrey
May 14 – 16 was the Hudson Valley Ramblers first campout of the season. We joined the Windmill Winnies at Deer Run Camping Resort, Schaghticoke, NY.
There were 12 of our regulars attending and our new Alpin Haus Representative, Eric Woods ("Woody"), and his family joined us.
Friday was an enjoyable happy hour with snacks hosted by the Winnies. The Winnies also provided an ample Saturday breakfast.
The Ramblers held their meeting Saturday and discussed the future camping weekend schedules for the year. During the meeting our sponsors, Alpin Haus, provided some entertainment when those with winning tickets chose their prizes.
In the afternoon beanbag baseball was available to those athletic members.
Our joint potluck supper was held Saturday and a huge array of food was available.
The weekend concluded as the Ramblers provided a continental breakfast on Sunday.
There was plenty of sunshine, cool breezes, and food that made it an enjoyable weekend.
The Windmill Winnies were excellent hosts.

Well . . . May is here . . . where did that long snowy winter go? We are back in full swing. Our club members joined the Nassau Camping Committee for the annual spring camping kickoff and we had good weather and a great time.
We had a good attendance and our club served breakfast on Sunday (our usual volunteer job) and the weekend was full of good fun; seeing many after the long winter and enjoying good food and entertainment.
We again had a campout with Suffolk County Camping Committee for their spring camping kickoff. There were over 300 camping units in attendance and our club had its annual raffle and while attendance was down this year and the sale time was cut in half, we did well and added over $200 to our funds.
We look forward to helping local charities as they come about this year. We had 12 units in attendance and we held our May meeting. Again, we had a good weekend of fun, food, and friendship. As our usual job, we served Sunday morning breakfast to over 900 people . . . we aim to serve a good HOT breakfast to all who come.
We look forward to the rest of the camping season and hope that members of WIT come to visit . . . we really do have a lot of fun together.

Eighteen members attended our first campout of the 2010 season at Twin Streams Campground in Morris, PA. We highly recommend this place – it is small, quiet, and very well kept.
The campout was hosted by Dixie and Bob VanHouten and Ruth and Greg Barbieri.
Though it rained most of the first day, the other days were sunny and beautiful. Twin Streams allowed us the use of a miniature clubhouse that was perfect for games and meals. Outdoors we competed in beanbag baseball and bocci ball.
While most meals were served in the clubhouse, we convoyed to nearby Wellsboro one evening for dinner at Harlan's Family Restaurant, another place we recommend to travelers. The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania in Wellsboro is a great for hiking, biking, and just plain ogling at the beauty of it.
Several members tried omelets-in-a-bag for the first time – a concoction of scrambled eggs and goodies sealed in a plastic freezer bag and boiled for exactly 13 minutes. Topped with cheese and salsa after cooking, they went great with muffins.
During our Hickories Campout in June, our hosts have planned a side trip to The Edge of Time B&B in Candor, NY for a fancy high tea.
