Mississippi Winnies
State Club
By Marcus Stennett

The MS Winnies held their first meeting of 2011 in February at the Gulf Isles National Seashore on the beautiful MS gulf coast. Most members arrived early to have a fun experience sightseeing along the beach in Biloxi and Ocean Springs. We saw the great wood carvings done by an artist who donated his time and talent after Hurricane Katrina broke off the trees. The artist carved beautiful sea birds and fish out of the remnants of the trees. We rode down the beach highway and saw the mosaic murals by local artists. We visited the harbor and quaint town of Ocean Springs.

The members enjoyed going out for lunch each day at one of the many restaurants in Ocean Springs. There are over a hundred in Ocean Springs alone.

Our Vice President, Ann Lane, along with her husband, Harry, opened their home to be used as a meeting place for the duration of the campout. We enjoyed playing cards and having several of our former members meet with us for fun and fellowship. Our hosts provided a meal of soup and cornbread with desserts furnished by the members and guests. The MS Winnies are off to a good start in 2011.
