Twelve coaches met at Ginny B's Campground in Foster, RI on July 29 for a weekend of fun and fellowship. Everyone brought food to grill and recipes were shared between members.
On Saturday the Executive Committee took the opportunity to meet. We discussed agenda items for our September club meeting and the calendar of activities through the end of the 2012 camping season. We also discussed organizational ideas and a membership drive.
Members sheltered from the sun under awnings and cabanas and a rousing game of pinochle capped off a leisurely day. Everyone got a tour of Les and Marcia Sindland's new 35' Sightseer. What a great new floorplan in that model! The L-shaped couch made a great impression, and the full-body paint and awnings on the exterior made for a pretty impressive ride.
Marcia and Les presented the club officers with the award plaque for a WIT Club of Excellence. They had received this award on behalf of CNW at GNR.
Our first quarterly meeting was held at the Deer Haven Campout in Lisbon, CT on Sept. 16-18. We had seventeen rigs with 33 people, including two guests and one visitor. Two other members joined us on Saturday.
Our guest, Lois Walden, and visitor, Helen Jette (FL), celebrated their birthdays by sharing cake with us! We recognized six September babies with a rousing tune. Oh, so sweet!
Our September business meeting was well received by our members. President Roger Coulombe did a great job conducting the meeting. He introduced the twelve month events calendar and circulated it amongst our members. By-law updates were also addressed. Wendy Bly, Vice President, outlined the volunteer duties for the Southern New England Tri-State Rally.
At the conclusion of the meeting, we broke out into two groups for our members to sign up for volunteer duties, based on whether they planned to attend the rally. The hall decoration committee was happily sketching their stage décor for the Tri-State's nautical theme. Everyone pitched in and filled the signup sheets. What a great group of volunteers we have in CNW!
Everyone fared well through Hurricane Irene. Members described how they used their motor homes as a respite from the powerless days and nights after the storm. How nice it is to have homes on wheels that allow us to be independent of the power grid! |
